HOLE #12 PENALTY RULES

Hole #12:

The margin around the lake on hole #12 is considered a red Penalty Area (PA). Please be certain to identify where your ball enters the Penalty Area so you can take correct relief. There is a 2 stroke penalty for playing from the Wrong Place if you have played from an incorrect place! (R14.7)

This diagrams shows examples for Hole #12. The ball crosses the margin (edge) of the Penalty Area (PA) on the tee side.

NOTE: Taking relief from a PA costs one stroke penalty.

Yellow line ball flight: The ball crosses the margin (edge) of the Penalty Area once and is inside the PA. Options are:

1. Stroke and distance

2. Back on an imaginary line drawn from where the ball crossed the edge of the PA to the flag stick.

3. 2 club-length relief area from where it crossed, no closer to the hole.

Pink line ball flight: This diagram shows a ball that has crossed the margin of the PA 3 times before coming to rest inside the PA; once on the tee side, second and third on the green side. It hit the course outside of the PA on the green side, then bounced back into the PA. Based on the last place the ball crossed the margin (X), options are:

1. Stroke and distance

2. Back on a line drawn from where the ball crossed the edge of the PA to the flag stick.

3. 2 club-length relief area from where it crossed, no closer to the hole.

Note that #2, back on the line, would not be a very good option in this case since it would make you have to go back to the tee side!
