CCWGA Board Meeting Minutes – 03/04/25

Captain Lynn Wheeler called the meeting to order at 1:40 pm 

In attendance – Quorum satisfied - Nancy Briest – Membership, Bev Cabellon – Treasurer, Louise Fong – Handicap, Lisa  Hatchett – Rules, Darlene Lethin Patch – Secretary, Patty Lin - Co-Captain & NCGA Club Rep & Eclectic, Barb Mehan – Social, Lynn Wheeler – Captain, non-voting member of BOD is Palmira Brandt – Advisor,

BOD Reports 

A. Secretary, Darlene Lethin Patch  

• Minutes from last board meeting on 1/7/2025: Motion to approve minutes as submitted was made by Bev  Cabellon and seconded by Louise Fong. Voted and passed. 

• 2/4/25 General Meeting Minutes posted on website; is it necessary to post in locker room? BOD unanimously agreed it is no longer necessary to post CCWGA Minutes in the locker room. Darlene will amend position description for Secretary. 

• # of years need to maintain hard copies of BOD and General Meeting Minutes in the Secretary's Binder? Wheeler will check with a non-profit expert she knows about legal requirements and report to the  BOD her findings next month. 

B. Treasurer, Bev Cabellon 

   • Budget – bank balance $8,805; largest expense is NCGA, and it is paid; anticipated carry-over $2,200. 

C. Captain, Lynn Wheeler 

• Review & approve Standing Rules. 

o Remove line requiring 18 holes must be played on first day. 

o Remove Pace of Play reference as it belongs in Standing Rules. 

o Lynn will revise and present for vote at April BOD meeting. 

• Review & approve By-Laws. 

o Amend dues and NCGA fee verbiage. 

o Include language detailing Treasurer position as a two-year term. 

     o Prepare revised By-Laws for review at April BOD meeting in preparation for a final BOD approved copy to be presented for vote by the CCWGA membership at the June General Meeting. 

D. Rules, Lisa Hatchett  

• Local Rules update – removed reference to relief from aeration holes. 

• Held on-course Rules class in February – well attended by many new members. 

• 3/31 – Match Play Rules seminar will be held; sign-up posted on our website. 

E. Tournament, Sandi Rose 

• Lynn reported for Sandi that tee times will change from 9:00 am to 8:30 am (coincides with Daylight  Savings Time). 

F. Membership, Nancy Briest 

• New member, Jennifer Kim. 

G. Social, Barb Mehan 

• Change will be made to Position Description – One week prior to meetings, choices for lunch will be sent  out. 

H. Handicap, Louise Fong 

• No report. 

I. Co-Captain, Patty Lin 

• No report. 

J. Advisor, Palmira Brandt 

• No report. 

1. Appointed Chair Board Reports:

A. Website Advisor, Stef Lee 

• No report. 

B. Major Tournaments, Joanne Severs 

• Review & approve 3 Major Tournaments. 

o Team Challenge (see end of minutes notes) – Shotgun, add to calendar; Darlene Lethin Patch  moved to approve, Patty Lin seconded, voted to approve. 

o Member-Member (see end of minutes notes) - Darlene Lethin Patch moved to approve, Barb  Mehan seconded, voted to approve. 

o Championship Tournament (NOT Club Championship) – see end of minutes note - discussion  about restricting participation, as noted in green type, resulted in Lynn asking for consensus of  BOD and Appointed Chairs that these restrictions be eliminated. All agreed to Eligibility as presented by Joanne Severs. Darlene Lethin Patch moved to approve, Nancy Briest seconded,  voted to approve. 

C. Invitational, Nancy Moore 

• 3/17 will send out Save the Date and announce theme “Christmas in July”. 

o Waiting on costs for carts before asking for BOD approval of the tournament. 

    • No report. 

D. Mini-Invitational, Cathy Koubek 

E. EBTP, Dorothy Keen and Rosmary Bartch – Dorothy reporting 

• Diablo, Stonebrae, and Orinda all want to join EBTP, but 14 teams is limit due to 5 “scared” dates of each  club. 

F. DVTP, Debbie Budd, Jill Beeman – Jill reporting 

• The combined clubs of Rossmoor/Moraga and Orinda/Sequoyah have agreed to, whenever possible,  comprise four person teams with 2 players from each club. 

G. Guest Day, Mary Miller and Pam Guinn 

• No report. 

H. Open Days, Ann Pons and Jeanine Schreiber 

• No report. 

I. Play for Pink, Pat Rocero and Teri Johnson 

• No report. 

J. Historian, Robin Morris 

• No report. 

K. Golf Genius, Pat Rocero 

• No report. 

2. Other Business 

A. MIP (Most Improved Player) 

• Much discussion detailing personal experiences, pros and cons. 

• Jill Beeman moved to reinstate MIP for 2025 with conditions that winners must have been a CCWGA  member for at least one year, the MIP season will coincide with CCWGA season of February – November,  and there will be three members recognized as MIPs. Each will receive a certificate so indicating their  achievement. Darlene seconded the motion. The BOD voted to reinstate MIPs (3) for 2025.  

B. Membership Form 

• Discussion resulted in decision to remove yar of birth from membership form. 

C. USGA 7 iron solution to address slow play 

• Discussion of USGA commentary about how to determine best tee box for players using average distance  a player achieves using their 7 iron.  

D. Determined this is a bit of a moot point given we only allow members to play from either the red or gold tee  boxes on CCWGA play-days and tournaments, however, it is an interesting resource for players when. they play  at courses other than CCCC. 

E. Pin Placements do not match letter 

• Suggest to Pro Shop that we return to Red, White, Blue flags for identifying pin placement. Lynn to take  this suggestion to Jake.
