Guest Speaker - Daren Echeveria, General Manager
Club Updates: Daren has been in his position for 7 months. He reports directly to Bay Club’s CEO (flat organization by design).
Priorities for 2026 are:
Staffing and training
Added Cheff Casey
Looking to add manager and staff for F & B events
Recognizes the club is understaffed in all areas and is working to hire and train personnel
Streamline operations
Reinvest back into the property
Replace 1977 boiler (supplies hot water)
Refresh back-office space, club house, locker rooms
Redesign space based on acquisitions; for instance, if BC buys a local fitness club, funds will go toward creating a new experience area instead of upgrading CC’s gym.
Answers to Questions:
The driving range has NOT been sold. Yes, someone has come to BC with a proposal to buy it by reconfiguring it and the surrounding property. BC understands how crucial the driving range is to the overall golf experience at CC.
All employees are to be CPR trained. There are currently 8 ADE units on property.
Member CPR classes will be offered shortly.
The Club sponsors two philanthropic events.
Boys and Girls Club in San Fransisco
Toys for Tots at all locations (will start 11/10 at CC)
Guest passes – due to daylight savings time, guest passes will be allowed earlier than 2 pm. If during the holidays, members need special accommodations for a guest, Daren encourages members to contact him directly.
Historically other campuses are not allowed to use guest passes outside their home club. This is to protect tee times for local golf members. This policy is not being followed consistently.
Daren asking for clarification from corporate.
The Pro Shop was advised by Daren to cease blocking tee times or giving preferential treatment to sad hoc groups. Only sanctioned groups will have protected tee times going forward (i.e. CCWGA and 4C9ers).
Daren is also investigating Sapphire members from other clubs taking tee times that CC golf members should have priority for.
The course improvement list includes bunkers, tree maintenance, possible use of a hybrid Bermuda grass, driving range equipment, aesthetics (examples include tee box markers, driving range building and paths).
Daren is evaluating the future of the golf program (clinics, etc.).
Daren hopes that with the hire of an Events Manager, a consistent events menu will be available to all groups.
Pace of play enforcement and like golf issues should improve with the addition of more golf staff and specifically the addition of an Assistant Pro responsible for training and implementation of golf policies.
Driving range improvements are under discussion. Questions being asked are: What improvements are needed to make it a more social setting? What infrastructure changes should be made? What equipment would add value to the range? In general, what changes need to be made to provide members with a better experience?
Where will the money come from to make the improvements under consideration? Money will come from corporate funds, not exclusively from profits generated at the local CC club level.
What is the status of BC acquiring Club Sport? – no comment – Daren has an NDR.
